Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers about setup, support, and operations.
What is GPS tracking?
GPS tracking uses a tracking device installed in an asset to collect location and operational information. The information is transmitted to a secure platform where authorised users can monitor the asset, review movement history and generate reports.
What types of assets can K-COM track?
K-COM provides tracking solutions for cars, motorcycles, three-wheelers, trucks, buses, construction equipment, financed assets and other movable assets. Product suitability depends on the asset, operating environment and required reports.
Can I monitor my assets from a phone or computer?
Yes. Authorised users can access the tracking platform through a compatible smartphone, tablet or computer with an internet connection. Access depends on the selected service package.
Does tracking work outside Tanzania?
Cross-border tracking is available on selected devices and service plans. Coverage depends on mobile-network availability, roaming arrangements, device configuration and the countries in which the asset operates.
What happens when an asset leaves an authorised area?
K-COM can configure geofences around selected locations. When an asset enters or leaves a configured area, the platform can generate an alert, subject to the device, service plan, network availability and notification settings.
Can K-COM help monitor financed assets?
Yes. K-COM provides tracking and management reports for banks, microfinance institutions and asset-financing companies. Reports can support monitoring of asset usage, location, activity, loan duration, tracking expiry and other agreed performance indicators.
Can I view previous trips and asset movement?
Yes. Depending on the service package and applicable data-retention period, authorised users can view trip history, routes, stops, distance travelled and other available activity records.
What happens if the tracking device goes offline?
A device may appear offline because of poor network coverage, loss of power, an installation issue, SIM connectivity, prolonged parking, damage or interference. K-COM will carry out remote checks and may recommend a physical inspection where necessary.
How long does installation take?
Installation time depends on the asset, device and required configuration. Standard installations are normally completed after the asset has been made available, the installation requirements confirmed and the necessary approvals received.
Will installation affect my vehicle warranty or electrical system?
K-COM technicians follow appropriate installation procedures designed to minimise interference with the asset’s systems. Customers should disclose any manufacturer restrictions or warranty conditions before installation.
Can the system immobilise a vehicle remotely?
Remote immobilisation may be available on compatible devices and installations. It must only be used by an authorised person, when the vehicle is stationary and where it is lawful and safe to do so. Network or device delays may affect execution.
How will I receive alerts?
Alerts may be delivered through the tracking platform, mobile application, email, SMS or another configured channel, depending on the selected package and available integrations.
Can several employees access the same account?
Yes. K-COM may create multiple authorised users with different access levels, subject to the customer’s package and account-administration arrangements. Each user should have individual login credentials.
How does K-COM protect tracking information?
K-COM applies administrative, technical and organisational safeguards designed to protect personal and tracking information. Customers must also protect their passwords, control user access and promptly report suspected unauthorised access.
Who is responsible for obtaining consent to track an asset?
The customer is responsible for ensuring that tracking is lawful and that required notices, permissions or consents have been obtained from drivers, employees, borrowers, riders or other affected individuals.
What support is available after installation?
K-COM provides after-sales assistance for connectivity checks, platform access, device troubleshooting, reports, service renewals and approved maintenance or replacement requests. Support conditions depend on the applicable service agreement.
What should I do if I sell or transfer the tracked asset?
Notify K-COM before the transfer. We can advise on de-installation, ownership changes, account closure, data access and installation of the device in another compatible asset.
How are K-COM’s charges calculated?
Charges depend on the device, installation requirements, number of assets, tracking coverage, subscription duration, reporting requirements and optional features. K-COM will provide a quotation based on the customer’s needs.
How can I request a quotation?
Contact K-COM through the website enquiry form, telephone, email or office. Provide the asset type, number of assets, areas of operation and the features or reports required.
